Based on our last post about the Koshas, I wanted to add a way for you to reflect on your koshas, explore and integrate the layers of your being.

As we often speak about at Beyond Asana Yoga, this practice is wholistic, not just about movement. It is a complete system for living that works on every layer of our experience. The koshas, or sheaths, map the layers of our being—from the physical body to the deepest layer of bliss.

This workbook is designed to help you explore each kosha with reflection, journaling, and intentional practices. Use it at your own pace, integrating exercises into your daily life.

Instructions

  1. Read each section and reflect on the explanations of the kosha.

  2. Complete the exercises, journaling honestly.

  3. Integrate one or two practices into your day before moving to the next kosha.

  4. Revisit as needed—this is a living, evolving practice.

1. Annamaya Kosha – The Physical Body

Focus: Awareness of your body, movement, nourishment, and rest.

Reflection Questions:

  • How do I treat my body on a daily basis?

  • Do I feel supported, energized, or drained by my habits?

  • Which physical practices bring me joy and vitality?

Exercises:

  1. Body Scan Meditation: Spend 5–10 minutes noticing sensations from head to toe. No judgment, just awareness.

  2. Mindful Movement: Pick a form of movement that feels nourishing (yoga, walking, dance) and practice with full attention.

  3. Nutrition Reflection: Track your meals for a week. Note which foods make you feel energized versus depleted.

Journaling Prompt:

“Today I will honor my body by ________.”

2. Pranamaya Kosha – The Energy Body

Focus: Breath, life force, and vitality.

Reflection Questions:

  • How conscious am I of my breath throughout the day?

  • When do I feel energized versus drained?

  • What routines support my energy naturally?

Exercises:

  1. Pranayama Practice: Try 5–10 minutes of deep, conscious breathing—such as three-part Dirga breath.

  2. Energy Check: Pause three times a day and notice where your energy is concentrated.

  3. Nature Alignment: Spend time outside, noticing how fresh air and natural rhythms affect your energy.

Journaling Prompt:

“I can support my energy today by ________.”

3. Manomaya Kosha – The Mental & Emotional Body

Focus: Thoughts, emotions, and internal patterns.

Reflection Questions:

  • Which thoughts dominate my mind daily?

  • How do my emotions influence my decisions?

  • Are there recurring patterns I want to release?

Exercises:

  1. Mindful Journaling: Write down any repetitive thoughts or emotions without editing.

  2. Observation Practice: Notice a strong emotion today without reacting. Label it and release it.

  3. Meditation: Spend 5–10 minutes observing the mind, letting thoughts come and go like clouds.

Journaling Prompt:

“I can create space for clarity in my mind by ________.”

4. Vijnanamaya Kosha – The Wisdom Body

Focus: Intuition, discernment, and conscious choice.

Reflection Questions:

  • How often do I act from awareness rather than habit?

  • In what areas of life do I feel disconnected from my inner guidance?

  • Where can I apply more discernment and clarity?

Exercises:

  1. Svadhyaya (Self-Study): Reflect on a decision or challenge. What is your inner guidance saying?

  2. Meditative Reflection: Spend 10 minutes in quiet contemplation, asking: “What choice aligns with my highest self?”

  3. Value Alignment Check: List your top 3 values and review whether your current actions reflect them.

Journaling Prompt:

“I will honor my inner wisdom today by ________.”

5. Anandamaya Kosha – The Bliss Body

Focus: Presence, joy, and connection to the Self.

Reflection Questions:

  • When do I feel fully present and at peace?

  • What practices allow me to experience joy beyond circumstances?

  • How can I access this state more often?

Exercises:

  1. Gratitude Practice: List three moments of joy or peace from today.

  2. Silent Meditation: Spend 5–10 minutes in stillness, focusing on presence rather than doing.

  3. Joyful Engagement: Engage in one activity that brings spontaneous happiness or flow.

Journaling Prompt:

“I experience joy most fully when I ________.”

Integration Practice

After exploring all five koshas:

  • Reflect on how each layer interacts with the others.

  • Identify one small, daily habit for each kosha to cultivate balance.

  • Observe how these practices influence your energy, clarity, emotions, intuition, and joy over time.

Integration Exercise:

“This week, I will honor my being fully by ________ (body), ________ (energy), ________ (mind/emotions), ________ (wisdom), and ________ (bliss).”

Yoga is more than movement. It is a lifestyle—a way of living consciously across all layers of our being. By connecting to the koshas, we learn to nourish ourselves physically, energetically, mentally, and spiritually. Over time, this awareness transforms not just how we practice, but how we show up in life.
